Lorain County Medical Society Foundation Scholarship
The Lorain County Medical Society Scholarship Foundation was established in 1963, rooted in the Medical Society’s long-standing commitment to improving the health and well-being of the community. Created to support local students pursuing careers in medicine and allied health fields, the Foundation reflects the belief that investing in education is essential to ensuring a strong, well-trained healthcare workforce for Lorain County.
The Foundation’s initial funding came from a unique and meaningful source—surplus public donations originally collected to support the distribution of the Sabin oral polio vaccine. When those funds could not be returned, they were repurposed, with court approval, to create a lasting scholarship endowment. Over the years, the Foundation has grown through generous contributions, including memorial gifts honoring physicians, community members, and loved ones. Today, it continues to provide scholarships to local students across a wide range of healthcare disciplines, helping to cultivate the next generation of providers who will serve the Lorain County community.
